Studio in a School - Middle School Arts Audition Bootcamp

During the summer of 2022, I worked as a mentor for the Studio in a School Middle School Arts Audition Bootcamp. This was a free program for incoming 8th grade students from Title 1 schools in New York City that took place over the course of two weeks at LaGuardia High School. The goal of the program was to prepare students with a portfolio for high school arts auditions. I worked with students in collaboration with the lead teachers on developing the student's technical skills in drawing from life. Students created still-life drawings of paper bags with charcoal, assorted objects with graphite, self-portraits with oil pastel, and figure drawings with graphite and pencil. Figure drawing was all done from life, either using a model in class or from a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where students drew from observation using sculptures as references.
